Parla City Council (Madrid) awards the cleaning and waste collection service contract to FCC Environment

The City Council of Parla, a municipality of Madrid, has awarded a JV lead by FCC Medio Ambiente (the Spanish brand for FCC Environment) the street cleansing and solid urban waste management contract for a four-year period, with two possible extensions of one year each.. The contract portfolio is worth EUR 41.55 million. A staff of 248 employees will be responsible for the different tasks included in the contract, covering the waste collection and cleaning needs of the municipality's 124,661 inhabitants. It is expected that over 43,500 tons of different waste fractions will be collected and around 250,950 linear metres of streets will be cleaned. To carry out the collection services, the company will use a fleet of ten top-loading compressed natural gas (CNG) lorries, five open-back tippers and three vans, one of them electric. With regards to the cleansing service, the company is committed to the electric mobility technology, ensuring that the municipality receives more sustainable services and a reduction of the environmental impact. Therefore, 20 electric vehicles will be used to deliver the services, including vans, Porter-type ancillary sweeping vehicles, three-wheelers and mechanical sweepers. In addition, three open-back tippers and five hydro-cleaning vans will be used. With regards to ancillary machinery and tools, the company will use 41 portable trolleys, seven blowers, five brush cutters, ten salt-spreading devices, one mounted on a truck and a handheld device, a snow plough and a trailer-mounted leaf–suction machine. As a cleansing improvement, the frequency of service at weekends will be the same as in week days. Furthermore, intensive cleaning campaigns will be carried out regarding four types of tasks: pavement and street washing and sweeping; removal of graffiti and paint; scrubbing pavements with hydro-pressure equipment; and collection of rubble in current problematic areas.
