The businesswoman, philanthropist and aristocrat Esther Koplowitz, as well as the physician and politician Ana Pastor have just been appointed members of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation of the Royal National Academy of Medicine of Spain (FRANME) at the proposal of the Board of Directors and the Governing Board of the Royal National Academy of Medicine of Spain (RANME) at a meeting held recently.
For this appointment, the Board of Trustees of the FRANME has valued their extraordinary professional careers, as well as their continuous contribution to medicine, health and Spanish healthcare, ‘We are proud to have two such relevant figures on the Board of Trustees of the Foundation of the Royal Academy of Medicine. Thanks to their support and collaboration, the Academy will be able to continue developing all those activities that promote research, medicine and its application to society in general. We welcome them to this House of Science’, said Prof. Eduardo Díaz-Rubio, chairwoman of the RANME.
Esther Koplowitz, already received in September 2023 the Medal of Honour of the RANME for her contribution to medicine and biomedical research, activities that she carries out mainly through the Esther Koplowitz Foundation, established in 1995. Its aim is to help people with physical and mental disabilities, as well as the elderly without resources and other disadvantaged groups. ‘I am very grateful to all the academicians for my appointment and I hope that my role will contribute to continue promoting progress and health in the population.
Esther Koplowitz's long career in support of biomedicine should also be highlighted, with the donation of the first DaVinci robot to the Hospital Clínico in Madrid, the terrace for the mentally ill at the Gregorio Marañón hospital and the construction of the biomedical research centre in Barcelona that bears her name.
