FCC wins contract for waste recycling and marketing in University Park, Texas
The Citizen Services Group will manage about 3,200 tons per year of recyclable waste, which will be treated at a plant that the company is building in Dallas. The contract runs for five years, with the possibility of a five-year extension.
The City Council of University Park, Texas, has formally awarded FCC a five-year service contract for the treatment and marketing of all the city's recyclables, with scope for a five-year extension. Contract revenues could exceed €3.2 million, depending on the final duration and on commodity prices.
The City of University Park, with a population of approximately 24,000, is located in Dallas County.
FCC will process approximately 3,200 tons of recyclable waste (glass, aluminium, cardboard, paper, plastic and steel) each year from University Park.
The recyclables will be processed in a new state-of-the-art facility that FCC is constructing in Dallas and which will come into operation on 1 January 2017. This plant will have the most advanced separation techniques, including artificial vision, optical and gravity separators, etc. and will sort all the waste received via single-stream recycling bins. The process will return thousands of tons of paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, metal, etc. to the production cycle.
The University Park contract is another step forward in FCC's plan to establish a foothold in the services business in North America by leveraging its more than 100 years of experience in environmental services worldwide. Other noteworthy contracts include construction and operation of the Dallas plant; the Orange County (Florida) contract, the first municipal solid waste (MSW) collection contract in the US to be awarded to a Spanish company; and biosolid management in Houston.
